London Grand Prix Athletics 2009

Britain’s showpiece athletics event, the Aviva London Grand Prix, took place at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre as the highlight of the summer. The Grand Prix took place over the weekend of the 24th and 25th of July.

Graham Watson (Facilities Manager at CPNSC) was very impressed with the way Birdsall completed tasks ahead of schedule and the general       management and implementation of operations.

This years Aviva London Grand Prix saw the following events:

Long Jump
Triple Jump
High Jump
Pole Vault
Javelin
Shot Put
Hurdles
100 Metres
200 Metres
400 Metres
800 Metres
5000 Metres
400 Metres Relay

The atmosphere was brilliant and even the dark clouds and chance of rain didn't seem to dampen anyone's spirit.

All events where extremely entertaining, however the real highlight of the evening was the final event, the men's 100 metres. This is the event that everyone had been waiting for.

Eight runners from four different nationalities USA, England, Jamaica and Antigua. The favourite to win was Usain Bolt, and he didn't let his fans down. He was so fast it was all over in seconds, his fellow competitors didn't stand a chance. Bolt came first with an unbelievable time of 9.91 seconds.

Special thanks to the Birdsall team at Crystal Palace, who ensured that the event ran smoothly.
