Birdsall Services Complete Race for Life 2010
Race for Life 2010
The Birdsall girls took part in this years Race for Life, held at Cassio Park in Watford on Sunday 27 th of June. Sunday was a day of rarity with brilliant blue sky’s and lots of sunshine, probably the only day of the year the girls were wishing for showers and cloud.
The Birdsall girls half heartedly participated in the warm up, and eagerly joined the masses at the start line. We all got off to a good start, with a few storming off in front and leaving the rest of us behind. The ones lagging behind soon caught up and everyone found their own pace to complete the 5k.
Dehydrating, aching and out of breath we all crossed the finishing line in good times. This is when we all reflected we probably should have warmed up properly before running.
The day ended with ice creams and everyone went home in extremely good spirits. Thanks again to those who took part and those who came to support us. The Birdsall girls managed to raise over £500 for Cancer Research UK.

Ride 24 track race took place on the 19 th & 20 th of June at the infamous Top Gear Track. This event was to raise money for Action Medical Research , a charity for sick and disabled children throughout the UK.
This was the ultimate biking challenge! Riding day and night around the Dunsfold Test Track in Surrey, testing our boys speed, stamina, tactics and endurance. 330 riders took part with 81 teams and 5 solo riders.
Kevin Warne a Lead Air Conditioning and Chiller engineer at Birdsall Services organised two teams of four to complete this mammoth 24 hour bike ride round the track. Thanks to Kevin for all his hard work in organising this event.
The race started at 12pm on Saturday with the boys getting off to a good start, however the wind was relentless and didn’t let up all day and night ensuring this wasn’t going to be an easy challenge to complete, however the free food and massages went a long way to reviving our guys.
Congratulations to Paul Birdsall (Managing Director), Kevin Warne, Mark Taylor, Chris Ward, Steve Orlando, Lee Duffy, Steve Maloy & Andy Smith on completing the 24 hour cycling relay. We managed to raise over £2600 for Action Medical Research. Thanks to everyone who helped us raise this sponsorship and family, friends and colleagues who came to support our cyclists.

Birdsall would like to congratulate Brawn GP and all the team in their success. Birdsall have sent a letter of congratulations to Brawn GP for its magnificent achievement in winning both the drivers and constructors F1 championships. Back in November 08 things looked very bleak indeed for the team as Honda pulled out and no one was prepared to buy the team. Birdsall were one of the few suppliers prepared to continue working at the factory without a contract. We took that decision based upon the relationship developed with the factory over many years from the early days of BAR. In February with the team secure under the new Brawn ownership Birdsall were awarded with a new contract. Brawn GP went on to have an unbelievable season, one that they fully deserved. We’re proud to be associated with the Brawn GP team. [more]Birdsall Sponsors GLL Sport Foundation

The support is designed to offer practical help and nurture talent striving for national and international success. In 2009 602 young athletes have received assistance from this foundation, making it one of the largest independent supporters of athletes in London. Without sponsorship this foundation would not exist and many young athletes would not be given the opportunities which they are now offered. Birdsall are extremely proud to be part of this foundation as we believe that more emphasis should be placed upon the positive impacts of sporting activities within communities. [more]TEAM BIRDSALL COMPLETE THE LONDON TO BRIGHTON BIKE RIDE!!
WOW, what a busy charity fundraising couple of months Birdsall have had! That’s not even mentioning the fitness training involved over the last 6 months. Sunday 21st June saw an early start for the Birdsall bike riding team. 5.15 am the bikes and ourselves were loaded onto our team van before being transported safely to Clapham Common where the 54 mile London to Brighton bike ride commenced. Thirteen eager bike riders from Birdsall wound there way through London’s streets, where a few stops were inevitable due to traffic lights and the 27,000 cyclists taking part. Probably the most notorious part of the ride is Ditchling Beacon, which is where the route encounters the South Downs. With only a few miles to go a commanding view was to be enjoyed from the top, however the Beacon took no prisoners, and many of us after an initial attempt to cycle the unforgiving road gave up and walked to the summit. All thirteen cyclists completed the mammoth 54 miles from London to Brighton. The atmosphere was electric and the experience was unforgettable. Birdsall bike riders managed to raise a total of £2000 for the British Heart Foundation, with Birdsall donating over £200. Congratulations to the Birdsall Bike Riders. [more]© 2010 Birdsall Ltd
