TEAM BIRDSALL COMPLETE THE LONDON TO BRIGHTON BIKE RIDE!!
WOW, what a busy charity fundraising couple of months Birdsall have had! That’s not even mentioning the fitness training involved over the last 6 months. Sunday 21st June saw an early start for the Birdsall bike riding team. 5.15 am the bikes and ourselves were loaded onto our team van before being transported safely to Clapham Common where the 54 mile London to Brighton bike ride commenced. Thirteen eager bike riders from Birdsall wound there way through London’s streets, where a few stops were inevitable due to traffic lights and the 27,000 cyclists taking part.
Probably the most notorious part of the ride is Ditchling Beacon, which is where the route encounters the South Downs. With only a few miles to go a commanding view was to be enjoyed from the top, however the Beacon took no prisoners, and many of us after an initial attempt to cycle the unforgiving road gave up and walked to the summit.
All thirteen cyclists completed the mammoth 54 miles from London to Brighton. The atmosphere was electric and the experience was unforgettable. Birdsall bike riders managed to raise a total of £2000 for the British Heart Foundation, with Birdsall donating over £200. Congratulations to the Birdsall Bike Riders.
